Civil and Women’s rights activist, Andrea Pino.

On August 25th, Civil and Women’s rights activist and first generation college student, Andrea Pino, came back home to Miami to deliver a talk about sexual assault and empowerment to Dr. Victoria Burns’ packed ‘Introduction to Global Gender and Women’s Studies’ class here at FIU. Pino is co-founder of the organization End Rape on Campus (EROC), author of “We Believe You: Survivors of Campus Sexual Assault Speak Out” (2016), and was recently featured in the Emmy-award winning film The Hunting Ground. After her presentation, Dr. Burns’ class engaged in a lively Q.A. session that helped open a dialogue about the unfortunately taboo subject of campus sexual assault.

The Center hopes to host more guests like these in order to engender an active, safe, and inclusive community of students, faculty, and friends of the CWGS on campus.
