Women in STEM
The Women in STEM initiative at FIU seeks to increase the number of women in science, math and engineering through outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts for students and faculty. We also aim to explore the intersections of gender within these fields.
Fostering talent in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is imperative to America's leadership at a global level. The Obama administration seeks to further the development of a diverse scientific community that showcases unique viewpoints as a critical step in achieving this goal.
"One of the things that I really strongly believe in is that we need to have more girls interested in math, science, and engineering. We've got half the population that is way underrepresented in those fields and that means that we've got a whole bunch of talent... not being encouraged the way they need to."—President Barack Obama, February 2013
