About Us

The Center for Women's and Gender Studies, established in 1982, promotes scholarly inquiry related to women and gender. Interdisciplinary courses in women's studies and cross-listed courses in other disciplines enhance student's knowledge about women, feminism, and the significance of gender in diverse cultures and contexts.

Students gain tools for analyzing the construction of women and gender, the relationship between gender and power, and the intersection of gender with sexuality, nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, class, age, and ability. The FIU Center for Women's and Gender Studies fosters intellectual exchange, creative pursuits, social justice advocacy, and global perspectives, thereby contributing to the university's reputation for excellence and relevance in the 21st century.
